ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE: Environment

Cooper Coated Coil (CCC) is a Company that applies paint to metal coils and offers a wide range of metal finishing services to a variety of customers. We have strong UK & export links to Metal Housewares, Appliance & Automotive Manufacturers’, and in recent years CCC has extended its customer base into other industrial sectors.

We have established an Environmental Management System based on ISO 14001 and its registration No. 510772 has been validated by the British Standards Institute.

The Company recognises its operations have an effect on the Environment, consuming energy, depleting natural resources, generating wastes and has in response, developed a set of programs and objectives to minimise these impacts as much as possible.

Our environmental performance can be measured and our efforts in a number of important areas are detailed here.

Compliance

Although our operations are complex and varied, we have committed to operate within current pollution, prevention and control regulations and therefore come under local authority control, constrained by permit to release only wastes and pollutants into atmosphere, land or water that conform to stringent limits. Regulated by our local authority we are continually striving for improvements to achieve the lowest pollution status possible.

Climate Change & Energy Use

The issue of climate change has become increasingly prominent in recent years. Under a climate change levy agreement (Finance Act 2000 schedule 6) the company has set itself milestone targets for reducing energy consumption over a 10 year period. Audited by DEFRA, the company can demonstrate that it has achieved and exceeded its set energy reduction targets to date.

Emissions to Air

Volatile organic compounds (VOC) used in our process are destroyed in a thermal oxidizer (TO) before release to atmosphere. Our TO exceeds prescribed destruction rates, uses VOC as fuel and provides us with a means to recycle waste heat and reduce our overall energy consumption still further.

Water

Coil coating is relatively water-intensive, although most of this is used for cooling purposes. Our process water is regularly tested by independant laboratories to ensure discharges are compliant. Programs to reduce water consumption are in progress.

Solid & Liquid Wastes

Having identified waste streams, management programs to control, seperate, recycle and reduce are ongoing.

Products

Much attention has been given to eliminate all restricted chemicals from our process and products, which now conform to ROHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive), REACH (Restriction, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals) and where applicable, all food approval standards.

Nuisance

Although our production facility is located within a dedicated industrial zone, we have recognised nuisance as an important issue and have established controls to limit noise, traffic movements and olfactory effects.
